Mimimyne has just won the Small Business Sunday #SBS competition run by Theo Paphitis!

Posted under Mimimyne news

I just wanted to share with you the exciting news that Mimimyne has just been chosen along with five other companies to be retweeted by Theo Paphitis as part of his “Small Business Sunday” competition. Theo Paphitis the legendary retail Dragon needs, I’m sure, no introduction but “Small Business Sunday” may not be known to everyone. To support small business in the UK, Theo asks small businesses to tweet @TheoPaphitis every Sunday between 5pm and 7.30[, with the special #SBS hashtag somewhere in the tweet. Although this sounds as though it should be easy, it's actually trickier than you'd think to remember to send a tweet at a certain time once a week, and on several occasions I'd actually tweeted too early and missed the slot, or left it too late, and ended up kicking myself on Monday. Anyway, last Sunday night I sent a Small Business Sunday tweet, but as I had an old friend coming round for dinner I turned my mobile off and didn't look at my computer (I've learned my lesson now! Never turn off Twitter!). Anyway, to cut a long story short I woke up to lots of wonderful messages on my Twitter page from other people who'd seen his #SBS tweet and I am absolutely thrilled to have won and would like to thank Theo Paphitis for doing so much to support small businesses like mine and those of the five other winners. I've already seen some amazing results - doubling of visits to my home page and a five-fold increase in visits to my blog! So thanks again to Theo Paphitis and Small Business Sunday.

Mumpreneur Awards 2010

Posted under Mimimyne news

I was nominated for Best Online Business at the Mumpreneur Conference and Awards 2010 and although I didn’t win, it was afantastic event as always with a lot of my favourite speakers, including Alison Rothwell of SEO Training Club, there to motivate, inform and inspire the audience of businesswomen. I went to two seminars, one ‘break-out session’ on SEO and listened to two motivational speakers. More info and links coming soon, meanwhile there’s an interview with me below by Family Friendly Working which talks about what I most enjoyed at the conference.

Mimimyne got a lovely write up from Angels and Urchins Magazine this September!

Posted under Mimimyne news

Angels and Urchins, one of my favourite parenting magazines, just featured Mimimyne on page 51 of their September issue! ‘What your nursery says about you’ is the title of the feature and it says of a typical Eco Mummy: “When she was 18, Eco Mummy cast her first vote: for the Green Party. Although you won’t find her at a tree-top protest, she still abides by her environmental principles. She has found a kindred spirit in Tabitha Potts at Mimi Myne, where ‘design and environmental principles are given equal weight’. Eco treasures here include the Splat cardboard chair, tree friendly wallpaper, shabby-chic furniture and storage”. There’s a photo of the Splat recycled cardboard chair, as well.

Lots of other great eco companies are recommended, it’s a great read! Mind you I’d like to think that Mimimyne has something to offer Retro Mummy, Thrifty Mummy, Modern Mummy and even Traditionalist Mummy too….

Mimimyne is shortly going to be live on MyIce!

Posted under Mimimyne news

Mimimyne, the eco store to help families grow up green, is happy to announce we will shortly be going live on MyIce, one of Britain‟s most generous and flexible reward programmes.
Ice will give consumers extra money in their pockets at a time when they need it most. Household budgets can be tight and Ice firmly believes that consumers deserve to be well rewarded for making sustainable choices, offering access to its partners‟ latest prices, plus Ice credits on top.

Ice has been designed to reward consumers and businesses for joining the drive for sustainable living. Companies like Eurostar, Green & Blacks Direct, Green Tomato Cars, Eat Sleep Live, and a host of farm shops across Britain (to name just a few), have all signed up to offer their sustainable products and services to consumers through the Ice reward programme.

How it works is simple – consumers can collect and spend Ice credits online by visiting www.myice.com, over telephone or in-store with an Ice card. Ice credits are available for buying sustainable products and services from British businesses across multiple sectors, including food & drink, travel, home & garden, home energy, fashion & clothing, pets and gifts & treats. With no catches, Ice rewards customers with Ice credits that can be spent as soon as they appear in the customers MyIce Account and can be mixed freely with cash or card payment.

  • Ice‟s mission is to mitigate climate change via mass consumer purchase power.
  • Anyone can join and it‟s free, no charges or fees. After registering at www.myice.com, consumers can start collecting and spending Ice straight away.
  • Customers don‟t need to collect a minimum number of Ice credits before spending them – one Ice credit can be spent as soon as it‟s in the MyIce Account – and customers don‟t have to spend over a certain amount before they will receive Ice.
  • Every Ice credit is spent for the benefit of the environment. All partners have been handpicked for their environmental and ethical credentials.
  • Ice credits do not expire – if customers do not use their Ice within three years, they will be spent on environmental initiatives.
  • Each Ice credit is worth 1p, and Ice doubles the value of the first Ice credits you spend to 2p every time you shop with an Ice partner.
  • Ice partners pay nothing unless they receive a sale. Ice manages all administration so partners get a low-cost, versatile rewards programme and targeted marketing channel to reach new, loyal customers.

It’s a hat trick! Mimimyne in finals for three national awards

Posted under Mimimyne news

I just wanted to share with you the exciting news that Mimimyne has reached the finals for three national awards! On Wednesday 11th August I will find out where I have reached in the Finals for the Make Your Mark in the Markets Awards run by Enterprise UK.

I have also just found out that I made it to the Finals in the Babyworld Parentpreneur Category in the 2010 Remote Worker Awards run by Paula Wynne. The awards ceremony for this is at the Grand Connaught Rooms, 61-65 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5DA on the 1st September and I will also have a stand giving away some Mimimyne Smartbags at the event.

Finally, I’ve also been shortlisted for The Best Online Business Award, sponsored by Create.net, at The Mumpreneur Awards 2010. There were 302 entrants for this so I am very pleased to have made it through to the final 6. The Awards ceremony is at the Mumpreneur Conference 2010 on September the 18th.

Nominated in Best Online Business Category for Mumpreneur Awards

It’s a massive recognition for the business and a huge confidence booster for me to have got this far. I started Mimimyne only two years ago and have run it single handedly most of that time. There’s no denying that it’s been tough at times, so it’s wonderful to have this recognition. I hope the facts that I always put my customers first, have a fantastic range of designers working with me and have worked hard to create an ethical business that also celebrates great design for children will help me to win one of these awards!

Globo News Interview with Tabitha Potts at Mimimyne

Posted under Mimimyne news

I was interviewed by a very charming Brazilian journalist for Globo News the other day: it was for a programme about people setting up businesses from home. The programme as a whole is about women’s roles and home businesses generally (I understand some Spanish, so I can get the gist if not a lot more!) and there is an interview with me in English with Portuguese subtitles plus funny footage of me struggling to school with boys and dog. I’ve already had some emails from Brazilian viewers asking for advice and suppliers, so who knows, perhaps I’ll have some lovely Brazilian products to feature on Mimimyne soon! I love the way the Internet empowers you to reach out to the whole world: it really is amazing.

Hot Picks! Mimimyne

Posted under Mimimyne news

I was very excited to see just now that the excellent green review site, The Green Familia, has chosen Mimimyne as one of their Hot Picks. They especially liked the Heba Nappy Bag, the Akina Dress by Green Eyed Monster and the cute little Anouk hand crocheted dress by Teenytini. You can read more of Brenda’s review on her blog Hot Picks! Mimimyne.
