Bloggers have been in the news a bit recently due to controversy over whether they are open about when they are selling products, what they are promoting and so on. I have to say most of the blogs I read are very entertaining and well-written and if the writer would like to make some profits from their hard work, I for one say why not? The problem is only when people can not distinguish between promoting a product that you are selling and a review of a product (advertorial, in other words) or when you do not disclose that you have a commercial interest in writing about something.
My blog exists mainly to share news about products in my own store, Mimimyne, and to talk about events, products and issues that interest me as well.
As I’ve had several organisations contact me recently to ask me to blog about them or their products, I think it is time to state my position here. I am happy to blog about non-profit or green causes or events provided I have the time. I will occasionally blog about other campaigns, products or services that I have found useful/entertaining/intriguing. If anyone asks me to review/visit/blog about something, I will a) guarantee to give my blog readers my honest opinion on that product/website/service b) disclose that I have been asked to review/visit/blog about that product/website/service. However, I am running my own business so don’t have much free time to write about anything else!
Here are some (only a few) of the blogs I read, although ‘blog’ is a bit simplistic for some of them (more multimedia colossi):
The Rockmother She’s so funny!
Dulwich MumShe makes me laugh as well
The Green FamiliaBrenda is one of the best green bloggers
The Ginlady The Ginlady won an Evolved Blogger award recently for her Green, Independent News blog
Bambino GoodiesThe coolest kids products review site with design news etc

Bunny for baby
Annie Jones discovers a timeless toy in the second of her baby blogs
‘Give a chance to beautiful handcrafted toys; bring the timeless teddy bear back in the arm of your children.’
That’s the mission statement, if you like, of Cosytots toys. Apart from the poor grammar (yes, I also correct apostrophes on signs in the greengrocers) it’s an adage I wholeheartedly agree with.
A toy that’s not been made in a factory with thousands of others exactly the same; that has been made with a bit of thought for comfort and cuddles; that has been constructed from materials that have been selected with care for the environment and the origin of said materials is the kind of toy I want LO to have and treasure. Temis seems to present all of those.

We were delighted to see the Splat Chair by Spinifex got a fantastic review by Natalie at Bambino Goodies, the design site for parents which reviews products for children under 4.
Natalie says”It’s amazing what you can do with recycled cardboard (I featured a chopping board made from it over on Nest Goodies a couple of days back) and one of my favourite pieces is the Splat Child’s Chair…”.
The Splat is also shortly going to be part of the Eco-Home exhibition at the Geffrye Museum! ![]()

We were very happy to find the Make Jewellery eco friendly craft kit by Creative Charlie got a fantastic review in Making Jewellery magazine this October! “This fun and bijoux kit… includes 35 colourful recycled paper beads that have been made in the Philippines from old fashion magazines… Ideal for children learning jewellery making or about being green…. Geared at the children’s market but we don’t think you will be able to keep your hands off them, they are so pretty!”. We’re glad the magazine writers love this kit as much as we do, at £5.99 including shipping it’s a perfect stocking filler for Christmas!
