Posted under Mimimyne eco friendly products news

Ikkle Baby Organic Baby Gift BoxMimimyne are very happy to announce that in response to our customers who wanted more baby gifts and products, we have signed up with the fabulous Molliemoo to sell their organic baby gift boxes. One of the identical twin sisters who run Molliemoo,  Anna, has just had a baby boy, and these two know everything there is to know about organic baby clothes and organic baby products! They both used to work in customer service and are dedicated to making sure that you are truly happy with your gift and get it on time and in perfect condition.

More about Molliemoo in their own words

“Molliemoo is a truly organic and eco-friendly experience!

Through our experiences we believe that nothing is more breathtaking or life changing than bringing a tiny person into the world.

In our world today, everyone is trying to do their little bit to help preserve the environment and the planet that we live on.  When babies are born this becomes even more important as we want to minimise the impact we have on the planet for them and for future generations.  For this reason, Molliemoo was born.

We have created the most beautiful organic gift boxes that we personally would love to receive.  All gifts are made purely from natural materials (no pesticides, chemicals or artificial colours etc) so best for baby, mum to be and the planet.  They are also presented in a beautiful 100% recycled signature keepsake box that can be kept for years to come for all the little ones memories.

We want to ensure that a loved one, friend, work colleague will know that you have gone to the time and effort to find a beautiful, thought provoking gift, for them and their baby.”
Cathy Martin and Anna Taylor, Owners of Molliemoo

One happy mum-to-be

Posted under Other news

I just got emailed a lovely photo of a mum-to-be receiving Teenytini’s hand-crocheted “Julius” cardigan at a baby shower with the caption “One very happy mum-to-be!”. We had a challenge getting the little jacket out to our customer as being one-of-a-kind, like all Teenytini’s designs, it was currently being exhibited in Paris when we got the order. However, the jacket made it to the shower despite the Royal Mail postal strike.

If I ever think an order won’t make it on time for a special occasion, I will always offer customers the option of a full refund and I do my best to make sure customers know in advance if there will be a delivery problem and offer them the option to cancel their order. I want all my customers to be happy ones! Always let Mimimyne know if your gift must arrive on a certain date when you make an order, using the comment box when you order. That way, I can keep an eye on your delivery and do my best to help you get the gift there on time.

Recycling Week: a follow-up post about batteries and electrical waste

Posted under Other news

As promised, a quick update on battery recycling. I used a handy battery recycling finder tool I found on the web, plugged in my postcode for battery recycling and there it was, Robert Dyas in Canary Wharf. Full of scepticism, with a heavy bag of 20 odd batteries, I set off: and there was a little box outside the shop, waiting for batteries to be recycled! I put them in and the job was done. There was even a Brita Water filter recycling box, as well. I was impressed that Robert Dyas are doing this (they also sell biodegradable picnicware, boys and girls, handy for the summer months and remarkably cheap) and can’t understand why more shops don’t. Yes, it’s extra admin and cost, but it can’t be much, and think of the goodwill they gain!

I’ve also tracked down about 5 more printer cartridges (I clearly had a large collection, this recycling business doesn’t half build up clutter) and sent them off to Comic Relief. With any luck, they’ll make another £2.50 for charity. I could also have swapped them for Nectar Points at Sainsbury’s, which is an option worth considering if you’re a coupon/points hunter.

While I’m being nerdy about recycling, I should point out I was in Muji today (another store that makes an effort to recycle, minimise packaging and use recycled resources) and noticed they will take your waste electrical items from you when you buy a new one as part of honouring the WEEE directives. Here’s what their website says: “Muji are offering free in store take back so you are able to take your items to our stores. You need not have purchased the equipment from one of our stores. If you are purchasing a product from our stores just bring your equivalent waste product with you when you come to purchase a new one….The products are sent to our recycling centre for processing”. I think this is an impressive policy and I hope many other stores will take it up and what is more, actively promote it.

And another general point on recycling: not everyone knows you can recycle clothes, ie the ones that are too tired/damaged to go to a charity shop. I recycled a whole bag (mainly children’s clothes) the other day and was thrilled to find the recycle point only a few minutes walk down the road. I also discovered my local Sainsbury’s will recycle CD’s and books, which is good news. All this does take some effort and research, but it is very rewarding when you manage to find a way to reuse something, instead of just dumping it in landfill. All in all, I enjoyed carrying out my Recycle Week pledge, have definitely got rid of some clutter and even raised money for charity ( if the Nokia is worth £30, I will have raised £40.50 by my calculation – not bad!). It’s been a useful exercise, and for someone who was (I thought) quite knowledgeable about recycling, I’ve learned some new things.

Web survey and competition winner: and new Facebook Fan page competition!

Posted under Mimimyne eco friendly products news

Thanks so much everyone who took part in the Mimimyne web survey. It’s been a very useful exercise and so interesting to find out what my customers and visitors think about Mimimyne and how it could be improved!

I was happy to note that out of those of you who had shopped at Mimimyne, 71% were satisfied with their experience while the rest of you were evenly split between very satisfied and quite satisfied. Obviously, I want 100% of you to be very satisfied so I am going to look carefully at customer service and ways to make the Mimimyne experience even more user friendly.

In terms of website usability, you were very keen to be able to search easily by price (you can already do this using Advanced Search in the menu). You also want to have free delivery and customer reviews, so I am going to look into how to make these features available (it involves some web design tweaking, so it may take a while!). You also want more products, so I am going to be working on that! Eventually, I hope to be able to make all the features available that over 30% of you asked for.

Thank you so much for taking part, it’s been lovely to hear from you all and thanks especially to one survey respondent who said she enjoyed the blog and twitterings! And finally *drum roll* our T shirt winner is Ashleigh Allan from Fife. A “Mimi” T shirt is on its way to her tomorrow morning! If you would like to win a Mimimyne T shirt, I am now running a new competition for Facebook Fans of Mimimyne. Visit the
Mimimyne Facebook Fan Page and sign up to be a fan and you could become the proud owner of a T shirt for your son or daughter too!

The Book of Green Eco Living Directory 2009 has arrived!

Posted under Mimimyne eco friendly products news

I was excited today to get my box containing copies of the Book of green eco living directory to give away to Mimimyne customers. I am charging £1.50 to cover postage and packaging costs, but the directory itself is free! It’s printed on 100% recycled paper by a mill that uses environmental standards and an electronic version will also be downloadable for free at The Book of Green from the 1st July. The book of green is a collaboration between All things Eco and One Green Earth (both Ethical Junction members) and contains literally hundreds of green and eco friendly companies contact and business details (including Mimimyne of course!). You won’t need any other green reference books once you have this!
