Arabella Miller’s cool, kind baby clothes are here!

Posted under Mimimyne eco friendly products news

Mimimyne is a huge fan of Arabella Miller’s beautiful, organic cotton designs for children, so we are thrilled to announce we are stocking their 100% organic cotton baby wear collection, certified by the Soil Association. This means that their organic cotton clothes can be traced right back to the field where the cotton was picked. They’ve ensured that the ink in their unique designs is also certified organic by the Soil Association. They’re produced in a factory audited by the Fairwear Foundation which means you can rest assured that only people working in fair conditions made these garments.

The Arabella Miller story started when the founder Alison’s little daughter developed exczema and she started looking for organic cotton clothes for her to wear as it does not aggravate babies’ delicate skin. When she outgrew her babywear, Alison found there was a lack of funky organic cotton clothes for her to wear as a toddler and so Arabella Miller was born! The babywear collection is new, however, and features a gorgeous butterfly print for girls and a spaceman print for boys. We’ll be adding to the range over the next few weeks but we thoroughly recommend the baby romper suits and hats, or the baby nightgowns, as a perfect gift for a newborn, both practical and beautiful!

Charity event in Leicester: launch of GivingWorld by Konnect9

Posted under Events Mimimyne

I’m very excited to announce that I’ve been asked to speak about sustainability and recycling at the launch event on the 2nd December in Leicester for a new charity website called GivingWorld organised by Konnect9. “Our new project www.givingworldonline.com will reach a UK wide audience; have a national impact on people in need; and has the potential to prevent thousands of tons going to landfill, whilst also ensuring the long term sustainability of our work through onsite corporate sponsorship and advertising”. Givingworld plans to put small businesses as well as large corporations in touch with charity at the touch of a button, so that new and nearly new products can be saved from landfill and given to people who really need them, for example. They plan to extend the project internationally.

Konnect9 have done some fantastic work helping underprivileged people in the UK and worldwide by saving items businesses would otherwise have sent to landfill. In 2007 they redistributed over £500,000 worth of business surplus, reaching out to many thousands of needy people and representing a staggering 70 tons of goods avoiding landfill.

They provided

  • access to literacy and educational aids for disadvantaged children and disaffected young people with the provision of books, stationery and refurbished computers
  • warmth to the homeless and elderly through the provision of clothing and blankets
  • much-needed home comforts for women and children fleeing domestic violence through the provision of toys, clothes and furniture
  • overseas aid to areas of Africa, India, and Eastern Europe; this support includes the provision of medical disposables and equipment which have saved lives.

I am very excited to be supporting this very deserving charity and will post news and photos to you about it on the blog.

Interview with me in Freshties

Posted under Mimimyne news

There’s an interview with me in Freshties, the community magazine, which talks about some of the community work I do alongside Mimimyne (I run a playgroup called Paintbox, in East London on Thursday mornings as a volunteer). Sign up to get the Freshties newsletter “breaking good news weekly” – you’ll have a round up of community, business and charity news with a lot of emphasis on environmental issues. And who doesn’t need more good news during times like these?

Mimimyne gets a mention on Treehugger!

Posted under Uncategorized

Treehugger have mentioned us on their site talking about 5 Organic Children’s products for the Fall. “The clothes are cute and made for kids but look like they could be found on the back of any indie guy or gal walking down the street, which is what Tabitha Potts, owner, was aiming for with her “environmentally aware modern design for children” they say, along with lots of other nice things!

Eco Design Christmas Fair

Posted under Events Mimimyne

If you want to have a green and guilt-free Christmas this year, look no further than the Eco Design Christmas Fair 2008. This event has been run by Louise Kamara since 2004 and has become very popular as it’s a great opportunity for designer-makers and small retailers to show their wares. It’s a fantastic place to pick up Christmas presents – I bought everything from clockwork toys for children to a keyring made from a circuit board as a stocking filler last year. This year it’s moved to the East End’s fabulous Brick Lane (so handy for me, and for everyone else I hope) and Mimimyne is going to be there! I hope you can come along and see us and admire all the fantastic wares that will be on offer this year.

Saturday 13th December – 12am – 7pm.
Sunday 14th December – 11am – 7pm.

Saturday market at Freightliners City Farm

I’m happy to say we’ve been invited to run our Mimimyne stall at the Freightliners City Farm Christmas Fayre this Saturday, 22nd November. This is an established market with stalls offering cakes, home made cooking, arts and crafts, jewellery, clothes and many more. The farm will be hosting activities for children including Santa’s Grotto and live music; and of course there are animals to look at as well! Mimimyne will be there with our cool organic clothes, stylish kids furniture and more…
