Our Environmental Policy

Mimimyne is the trading name of Me Me Mine Ltd (Registered number 06580587). Me Me Mine Ltd was set up with the express intention of promoting sustainably produced and environmentally aware modern design for children in the UK and Europe.

Our Products

All our products are either:

• handmade in the UK by designer-makers (this cuts down on the carbon footprint of products and encourages local craft and design)
• produced from a sustainable source (eg FSC forestry products),
• created from recycled materials
• biodegradable
• organic and thus not damaging the environment through manufacture or waste products (eg certified 100% organic cotton)
• Fair Trade (providing a fair living wage for workers in the country of manufacture)

We have tried to consider the environment at every step when sourcing these products, and we hope you – and the planet – will breathe a sigh of relief when you and your children use them! We look for standard approved certification whenever possible eg Soil Association Approved, SKAL Certified or Fair Trade. We ask our suppliers to provide us detailed environmental information and ask them to use recycled packaging whenever possible.

General Business Practices

Our office uses low energy lightbulbs wherever possible and has a low-energy computer. We recycle everything we can including batteries and printer cartridges and our food waste goes into the composter. We also collect rainwater to reuse in the garden. We minimise carbon emissions and paper waste by using email and web conferencing wherever possible, and we don't use cars for business use but stick to public transport and our trusty bike. We use recycled paper for printing and an eco friendly print company (alocalprinter.com) and when appearing at events we use recycled shopping bags from The Tiny Box Company. We are a member of Ethical Junction which independently audits its members and provides a platform for like-minded ethical businesses to work together.


Carbon Offsetting
Me Me Mine Ltd aims to be a carbon neutral website by the end of our first year's trading. However, for the first year we are offering our customers the chance to offset their own carbon emissions when booking a delivery. We have offset 10 tonnes of carbon through ClimateCare, when our customers pay this amount themselves we will pay for 10 more tonnes. You get the opportunity to offset the emissions caused by your delivery so that the transaction is completely transparent; you know how much it costs and where it is going.

Charity

We have pledged to donate 1% of our profits to an environmental charity every year. We have pledged to support Spitalfields City Farm and have sponsored two rabbits at the farm for a year. We will let you know how much we donate in September 2009 at the end of one years trading.


Me Me Mine Ltd also donates time to a local parents' voluntary group, Paintbox, which is a creative playgroup for the under 5's at the White Horse Play Centre in Stepney, East London. The director of Me Me Mine Ltd gives her time as a volunteer one morning a week during term time to run the group and help coordinate fund-raising and playtime activities. Paintbox is also exploring sustainable forms of creative play (we reused inner tubes from kitchen paper to make rockets, for example, and built vehicles out of cardboard recycling) and has a community bank account with the Cooperative Bank.
